Keeping the Menu navigation clarifying
About Menu navigation
To keep your menu navigation clarifying, you can set the menu item on hide. This means that the page is not visible in the navigation. By using links you can still give customers the option to visit those pages. This is extremely helpful when you have a lot of pages on your website. The best thing to do when using this option is to create a page, and add link to the pages you have hidden. This is better then adding a page to a page and then add another page to the last page. Why? Because when you add various pages to one page, the website will generate huge dropdown menu's which results into a bad navigation in your website. When using a main page with links to other pages, for example to 5 pages. You only have one page in the menu that takes care of 5 pages. For a complete explanation on how to do this you can read the following walkthrough.
You want to add 5 new menu items.
In this walkthrough we use 5 new menu items to make It clear to you how to use this trick. The first thing you probably think of is to go to Documents and structure, click on add menu item, type in the data and voila, u have a new menu item. You could do this 5 times and gain the desired effect. Namely adding 5 menu items. This is not wrong, but it makes your menu a lot less clarifying. When your website grows the problem increases. You can easily disguise this by making a main page within a menu's head, and then place links to following pages.
Create a main page.
Log into your CMS, go to Documents and structure, and click on add Menu item. Tell the system where this menu item has to placed. Give it a button title, Page type etc.
Typ a informative text.
Be sure to make a basic introduction that is relevant to the links that the visitor is able to follow.
After that you can choose to view links in the text or add them in a list. The benefit of a list is that you have everything in a clarifying state and you can give a small explanation of the page.
Create 5 page's.
Creat the pages you wish to add to your mainpage.
Don't hide page just yet!.
Create a link.
You can creat a link by selecting a text in the editor and then click on the button add Hyperlink. A screen will now pop-up where you can give the destination of the link. You can select the destination by clicking on the drop-down box for a internal link, or you can give the exact link as an URL, a external link. You also have the option to let the system open the link in the same window, or to open it in a new window. After you have given the exact location of the link, you have to click on "Ok". The link has been added. Now you can go to the page where the link goes to and make it invisible in the menu. Now that page is only accessible by clicking on the link you just created.
You can repeat this as often as you like to gain the desired effect.
